Food is very important to the Greeks, and not just because it's a necessity of life. It brings family and friends together over the dinner table. Greek food is subtle, not known for its over-abundance of spicy dishes. Bay leaves are used to flavour meat, fish and soups, and oregano is popular in tomato-based sauces. Some of Greece's most common and traditional dishes include seafood such as prawns (for prawn saginaki), calamari, sardines and octopus. Onions and garlic are the backbone of Greek cooking, and are prevalent throughout their dishes, dips and sauces. We show you how to make a traditional moussaka; as well as a classic Grecian dessert – kataifi.
