The Way of the Future

Each year, thousands more cars are introduced to our roads, filing our air with harmful pollutants and using up precious resources. In the last ten years car manufacturers have been working on ways to cut carbon emissions and save fuel at the same time - the result so far has been hybrid cars such as Toyota's Prius and Ford's Fiesta E-kinetic. One possible solution is the eventual replacement of unleaded petrol with more environmentally friendly and economic bio-fuels such as ethanol based petrol. But Bio-fuels aren't the only alternative. Another idea is the use of hydrogen, which leaves only a water-based emission. The main problem scientists face with hydrogen and electrical fuel cells is the financial cost to both car manufacturer and consumer.
