A mob mentality fuelled by alcohol often leads to scenes of violence, but nowhere in sport has it been more prevalent than in our world game. Soccer hooliganism dates back to the 1880_s, where troublemakers would sometimes attack umpires or the opposing team_s players. In 1985 in Brussels, the situation came to a nasty head, as a match between Liverpool and Juventis turned ugly. Six hundred people were injured, and 39 killed in an incident that was supposedly sparked by two Liverpool players applauding fireworks set off by their fans.
